PRINCIPAL

Tony Selko has been an integral part of Backen and Backen since joining the firm in 2011. His leadership and dependability led to his promotion to Principal in 2021.  He plays a pivotal role in the architectural operations at Backen and Backen overseeing new client intakes, nurturing client relationships, creating comprehensive proposals for prospective work, and managing contract administration, as well as, directing the day-to-day activities of the firm.

In addition to this role, Tony also manages several residential and luxury resort projects across the United States.  Working in collaboration with Ann and Howard Backen, he has been involved with the design and management of key projects, most notably the Holmby Hills Residence, which was published in Vogue in 2018.  He carefully listens to the clients’ goals and aspirations and transforms those into reality, creating legacy buildings that exceed clients’ expectations.

Tony's current focus lies in regenerative architectural endeavors. He is spearheading an innovative, ten-acre regenerative farm in Malibu, CA, which embodies Backen & Backen’s core values of regenerative practices for the Land | Building | Body.

Tony earned his Bachelor of Architecture degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He has over 20 years of experience in architecture.  He is licensed in California, New York, Wisconsin, Colorado, Utah and Hawaii, he is NCARB certified, and he is a LEED Accredited Professional.  In his free time, Tony enjoys cooking and traveling with his wife and son.
