Michael Boes

PRINCIPAL

Drawn to Backen & Backen’s commitment to create timeless designs that are thoughtful and belonging to the land; whether on the most personal and private level or the most active and public, there is a deep appreciation of and cohesion with the site’s natural environment. Michael is dedicated to implementing these principles in each project through synergistic collaboration with the client and all who are involved in the process.

In collaboration with Howard Backen and John Taft, Michael has led primarily winery projects since joining the firm in 2011, managing each from the design phases through completed construction. Notable projects include Davis Estates, One Hope Winery and RH Greenwich which received the President’s Award for National Leadership in Historic Preservation in 2015.

Prior to joining Backen & Backen, Michael worked on comparable custom residential homes in the San Francisco Bay Area, Hawaii and Idaho. Michael has twenty-five years of experience in architecture and construction management. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Science from Kent State University. Michael is a LEED accredited design professional.

Outside of the office, Michael enjoys biking, woodworking, and spending time outdoors with his family.
